Strategic Plan

Every few years we produce our strategic plan. It says who we are and what we’re doing. It outlines our goals and what we aim to achieve for the next four to five years. In our current 2026 – 2030 plan, we’ve included much more information about our community, the issues we deal with and the challenges we face.

Message From the Chair

We’ve come a long way since our first strategic plan developed back in 2018. This time we’ve taken a much deeper look at our organisation, the challenges we face, what we’re trying to achieve for the community of Yarralin, and how we aim to go about meeting those challenges as we move towards 2030 and beyond.

This document is about transparency and talking about the real issues we deal with.

One thing we’ve realised is that we know the problems we’re facing and it’s our role to advocate for solutions. We have a voice and we need to use it to speak to Government. We hope Government will use its ears and listen.

A big part of that is the Master Plan we’ve developed for Yarralin. Working with The Fulcrum Agency, we’ve looked at community’s needs for the next 30+ years and how that growth will impact town and what that means for the future of our community. Through that process we identified locations for a new store, clinic, and future housing. This is about taking control of our community and making long-term decisions that are in our best interests.

Being financially independent is also an important step for us. This Strategic Plan looks closely at our finances and where our real opportunities for revenue are. We aim to build a sustainable organisation that isn’t reliant on grant funding to exist.

There have been many successes, including developing a design for our New Store, delivering Telstra Mobile communications to 5 communities in our region (Nitjpurru, Myatt, Gilwi, Amandbidji, and Fitzroy Station), and successfully obtaining and renting out houses under plans to provide long-term business accommodation to organisations working in community.

But it hasn’t been without its challenges. The Yarralin Community Store has been a real lesson about the problems we face in our remote environment. Engaging Outback Stores Australia at the end of 2024 was a big step for us and a realisation that we need help to achieve our goals.

With that, I endorse our Strategic Plan for 2026 – 2030 and am honoured to share with you who we are, where we’ve come from, and where we’re going for the next 5 years.
